Workshop as part of the course "Smart Grid Seminar"

Meeting with a reputable Smart Grid expert

As part of the course Smart Grid Seminar the workshop "Smart grid challenges from high to low voltage network" has taken place on January, 12 2015 at the Technical University of Vienna. Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Walter Schaffer, Head of Electrical Grids, Salzburg Netz GmbH, was invited as a guest lecturer.

During the seminar, the students had investigated about 60 scientific papers on the following topics:

  1. Operation challenges in transmission network
  2. Integration of distributed generation in medium voltage grid
  3. Integration of distributed generation in low voltage grid
  4. Virtual Power Plants
  5. Microgrids
  6. Load behaviour, static characteristics
  7. Protection in presence of the decentralised generation
  8. Communication technologies

The results were gathered together in the presentation "Smart grid challenges from high to low voltage Network", which was introduced by all students. With the guest lecture "Smart Grids Model Salzburg" Dipl.-Ing. Walter Schaffer has provided a very informative and interesting overview on the latest research developments. The intense questions and discussions session enabled a clear understanding of the various smart grid issues and their relevance in practice.

The workshop was scientifically and pedagogically a very nice experience.
